Course Information

Introduction

This 30-day course teaches the practical skills needed to coordinate horse races in Britain. It covers fixture planning, race-day operations, welfare and safety, and regulatory compliance under BHA rules. The course balances on-course practice with case studies and checklists. Participants leave ready to run and oversee professional, compliant race meetings.

Objectives

1. Plan a full race fixture: create timetables, allocate races and stalls, and manage entries and declarations.
2. Coordinate race-day operations: run sheets, steward and veterinary liaison, rider and paddock flow, and starting procedures.
3. Apply BHA rules and welfare standards: interpret key regulations, complete required paperwork, and manage pre- and post-race checks.
4. Implement safety and emergency procedures: risk assessments, incident response, and communication with medical and veterinary teams.
5. Use operational tools and records: maintain race logs, produce stewards’ reports, and use common racecourse management systems for reporting and audits.
