Course Information

Introduction

This 30-day practical course covers horse physiology and welfare. It focuses on assessment, decision-making, and hands-on interventions you can use every day. You will learn to link physiological signs to workload, environment, and welfare outcomes. The aim is clearer clinical decisions, better day-to-day care, and reliable documentation for compliance.

Objectives

1. Assess body condition, posture, gait and behaviour to identify early welfare risks.
2. Interpret heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature and basic blood/biochemical markers to inform treatment and training decisions.
3. Perform immediate first-response and stabilization for common equine emergencies.
4. Design nutrition, exercise and rehabilitation plans matched to individual physiology and workload.
5. Implement routine welfare-monitoring protocols and produce clear, auditable records for owners or regulators.
